Julie Seidelmann took the top prize for low gross during the NWGA Ladies One Club, held on Wednesday, September 1. Seidelmann won “the purse” – a large Baggalini handbag. Prize winners for the games played on the course included: Vicky Jacques, Mary Boo Jeronimus, Deb Bolen, Kathy Kundel, Tracy Link and Judy Ledingham. It was a “crystal” night as prizes included crystal-colored golf balls, crystal ball marker hat clips, sparkling golf hats, and other gifts. 8 other prizes were raffled as the women closed the evening with dinner in the Donald Ross room. 28 women participated in this year’s event organized by Vicky Thomas and Michelle Juntunen.

Labor Day Weekend – Pool hours will be 11-7pm Saturday, Sunday, and Monday weather permitting. Pool menu will be available everyday including Monday poolside and inside at the JR Link Grill.

Tuesday September 7th will be the final women’s league day. A great season was had by all and we hope to see all the ladies back again next year, as well as some new faces! To thank the NWGA members Northland will be hosting a luncheon in the Donald Ross Room following play Tuesday.

On Wednesday September 8th NCC will be welcoming Lake Superior College staff and supporters as they hold their annual golf event here. Because of this tournament the golf course will be closed until 6pm Wednesday evening. We here at NCC apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thursday the 9th is the first Vikings Game of the Season!! To Celebrate the kickoff the JR Link Grill will be featuring the game in a larger format…Projection Screen!! Clint and Chef will be offering a special steak feature and Happy hour in the bar on Thursday. Come cheer on the Vikes with us!!

September 10th is the practice round for the Spooner Event. Participants start your weekend with a beverage and appetizers in the Grill after your round!

Friday the 10th NCC will also be opening the pool for the last weekend of the season. Pool hours Friday 3:30-7 Saturday 11-7 and Sunday 11-7 (weather permitting) Pool menu available all these days!!

Saturday and Sunday the Leo Spooner Tournament will be in full swing. Breakfast will be in the Ballroom both mornings starting at 6:30am. A sit down dinner Saturday night, social beginning at 6pm, with a discussion to follow.

Sunday September 13th Northland will be hosting a Memorial for our former pro Ev Stuart. Beginning at 5pm in the ballroom, come remember “Little Pro” with friends and family.

Sunday will be the final day of the swimming season at Northland Country Club.

Gentlemen if you haven’t yet, sign up now for this weekend’s Club Championship    Tournament! Play begins Saturday morning with tee times starting at 8am and continuing play Sunday morning.  Is Kevin Noreen looking for a back to back win? Maybe it’s time to heat up the competition!!

The Pool closing date has forever been a tough and challenging thing to call,  with weather being unpredictable and cool temps coming in and out of September much like the lake winds, NCC has decided on keeping the Pool open through the Holiday weekend and one last weekend hurrah after.  The Pool will keep regular hours until Monnday September 6th then be closed during the first week of school, reopening Friday September 10th  3pm-7pm, Saturday the 11th 11am-7pm, and one last final day on Sunday September 12th 11am-7pm. Food Service will be available poolside all these days!

Another fall change happening is to the Sunday Pub Menu hours, starting Sunday September 19th Pub Menu hours will be 10:30am – 7pm. Come on in soon and enjoy brunch on the golf deck veranda before the air becomes crisp!

The end of the month is rapidly approaching, if you haven’t used your minimum yet come in soon and take advantage of the summer amenities your club has to offer. Dinner on one of the verandas, lunch poolside with the family, or call  some friends, invite them for cocktails and appetizers in the JR Grill! The Dinner menu has a few new items to try including a chilled Avocado Soup, a mouth watering Bistro Steak Salad, and our Summer Berry Chicken Salad is a twist on an old favorite! Every Tuesday morning the course here at Northland is filled with a bubbly, enthusiastic, high-spirited, chattier group of golfers…Ladies! And this Tuesday was no exception.

This week the group played their version of the Solheim Cup,with a mix of teams and types of play the day was a success!

Clint will be providing all the liquid courage needed to get on the microphone by crafting a special poolside drink menu for the evening!

All the Fun doesn’t end there… Beginning at 4:30 Friday there will be a shotgun  golf start for everyone participating! Congratulations to Dan Moline for winning back-to-back Championships! The Duluth native was a favorite going into the tournament but coming through victorious is never a shoe in. With wonderful drives and clean short game Dan entered the winners circle one up after match play. Congratulations Dan!

This years Senior Championship went to Carl Horsh from Eden Prairie Minnesota! This was the first year that the Senior champ match went to an extra playoff hole. Horsh and second place finisher Duke Skorich played the 18th hole a second time to determine the winner.

Another first this year was the Super Senior Division.

Roger Rovick of Wayzata Minnesota took home the crystal for    his first place finish in this first ever Super Senior Flight. Congratulations Roger!!

The weekend was filled with events, dinners, cocktails, dancing and fun! Thank you to everyone that came and participated in the Tournament, Wednesday’s Under-the-Tent BBQ, Thursday’s “Stag Night”, Friday Night’s Jazz Reception, Sunday’s Final Galley and all the festivities the entire weekend! Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone next year for the 86th Invitational!

Dan Moline used the same caddy from his last years win, his Grandfather Don Moline who just celebrated his 80th birthday last week.
